House removals
across Essex
A whole household, from the survey through to the last wardrobe rebuilt in the right bedroom. Chelmsford semis, Colchester terraces, Southend seafront flats, Brentwood family houses and everything down the lanes in between.
House moves are the bulk of what we do, and Essex housing is varied enough that a standard quote would be wrong on most of it. A 1930s semi in Westcliff, a new-build in Braintree and a farmhouse outside Maldon are the same job in name only.
What is included
Every house move quote covers the vehicle and crew for the day, protective blankets and covers, floor and door-frame protection where the property warrants it, and taking apart and rebuilding the beds, wardrobes and tables that will not pass a door in one piece. The load goes on in a planned order so the unload comes off room by room.
- Free survey — in person or by video — before a number is written down
- Wrapping for upholstery, mattresses and polished surfaces
- Dismantle and rebuild of bedroom and flat-pack furniture
- Room-labelled unloading, so boxes land where they belong
- Packing materials taken away with us afterwards
Packing, at whatever depth suits
Some households want the whole thing done — crews arrive, everything is boxed, you leave with the kettle. Others pack the books, the toys and the garage themselves and hand us the kitchen, the glass and the pictures. Both are fine. What is not fine is a quote that assumes one and delivers the other, so ours names the rooms we are packing.
Fragile things get the right materials: cell partitions for glass, purpose-made cartons for framed work, lampshades and mirrors. Cartons you pack yourself travel happily, but they sit differently in the insurance and we will explain that rather than leave it in the small print.
Access, county by county-part
In the Chelmsford and Colchester terraces it is on-street parking and narrow hallways. In Southend and Westcliff it is seafront flats, lift dimensions and bay suspensions. In Brentwood and Billericay it is easy loading and surprising volume. Out towards Maldon, Saffron Walden and the Dengie it is single-track lanes, farm gateways and the occasional property where a full-size vehicle simply is not going to reach the door.
We establish all of that before the day. Where the lorry cannot reach, the answer is a shuttle with a smaller van — costed as extra hands in the quote, not produced as a surprise on the morning.
Travel time is part of the price
Essex is roughly fifty miles across. That matters. A move within Basildon and a move from Epping to Frinton are different days, and the A12, A127, A13 and A130 all have hours when a loaded vehicle simply stops. We build that into crewing and into the quote, openly.
Moving out of the county
Plenty of Essex moves end elsewhere — London, the Midlands, the North, or abroad. Those are planned as long-distance work from the outset, with the M25 or the A12 north as the first leg. If the destination is in Europe, see European removals.
How the quote is built
Volume, access at both ends, how much packing you want, and distance. That is the whole list. Smaller loads may be better served by man and van; commercial work sits under business removals; the full list is on services.

House move questions
What is in a house removal quote?
The vehicle and crew for the day, blankets and covers, door-frame and floor protection where it is needed, and dismantling and rebuilding the furniture that needs it. Packing is priced separately because most households want to do some of it themselves.
Do you survey every house?
We offer one on every house move and recommend it above a two-bed. It is free and it is the only reliable way to fix the volume. Video works well if you have already moved out.
Does distance across the county really change the price?
Yes, and we would rather say so than pad the volume to hide it. Brentwood to Basildon is a short hop. Epping to Clacton is most of a day before anything else happens. Travel is one of the four things the quote is built on.
Can the move happen in stages?
Yes. Part of the load going into store while the rest goes straight in is a normal arrangement, especially where building work is running behind. Tell us at quote stage so the double handling is priced.
What do you need from me on the day?
Access, somebody who can make decisions, and anything you want kept back put in one labelled place. Everything else is ours.

Send both addresses, your dates if you have them, and a sense of what is going. We will read it properly and come back with a written quote.
