Removals in
Southend-on-Sea
The most flat-heavy part of Essex and the most seasonal. What is a routine loading spot in February is a resort car park in August, and the same move takes a different amount of effort depending when you do it.
Southend and the estuary towns around it are the most flat-heavy part of Essex, and the most seasonal. What is a routine loading spot in February is a resort car park in August, and the same move costs a different amount of effort depending on when you do it.
The parts of the town
The seafront and the cliffs
Interwar and later blocks along Western Esplanade, the cliff roads, and converted Victorian houses behind them. Lift dimensions decide everything: a car that looks generous is useless if the door will not take a wardrobe on its side. We measure before the day.
Westcliff and Chalkwell
Large converted houses split into flats, plus terraced streets running back from the front. Staircases that turn twice before the first landing, and permit parking that is enforced properly. Early starts, more hands.
Leigh-on-Sea
The Broadway and the residential roads above it are ordinary and pleasant work. The Old Town by the water is not — narrow, busy, and effectively unreachable by anything large. That is a shuttle job and we say so at quote stage.
Thorpe Bay, Shoeburyness and the eastern end
Detached and semi-detached housing with driveways, wide roads, and space to work. The easiest moves on the estuary, and often the biggest by volume.
The summer factor
Nowhere else in Essex changes this much by season. Between June and September the seafront parking disappears, the A127 into town backs up at weekends, and a job that took four hours in the spring takes five. If your date is flexible and the address is seafront, an early start buys more than anything else we could do.
The roads in and out
The A127 and the A13 are the two arteries, and both have hours when a loaded vehicle simply stops. Canvey has two roads on and off the island and no alternative when either is blocked. We plan loading windows around all of that.
Around the estuary
Rayleigh, Hockley, Hadleigh, Benfleet, Canvey Island, Wickford and the Rochford side are all covered from the same yard. Basildon is up the A127. Flat moves at this end of the county often suit man and van, and larger households are house removals.

Southend-on-Sea questions
Are the seafront flats difficult?
Some are. The older blocks along the cliffs and at Westcliff have lifts that will not take a wardrobe upright and a single narrow entrance. We measure the lift car and the door before the day and plan the stair route as a fallback.
What about parking on the front?
Restricted and enforced. A bay suspension usually needs arranging in advance through the council, and in summer it is the difference between a straightforward morning and a day of carrying. We tell you which side of that we handle.
Is Leigh Old Town workable?
The Broadway and the residential streets, yes. Down at the Old Town by the cockle sheds it is genuinely tight, and a full-size vehicle is not getting near most of it. We shuttle from the nearest sensible standing point.
Do you cover Canvey and the island side?
Yes. Canvey is flat and easy to load, with the caveat that there are two roads on and off and both back up badly at the wrong time. We build that into the schedule rather than discovering it.
