The things people
actually ask

Collected off the phone and out of the inbox, answered the way we would answer them standing in your hallway. If yours is not here, put it in the notes on the quote form.

01

Essex is a big county. Do you really cover all of it?

Yes, and we price it honestly rather than pretending it is all the same trip. Chelmsford to Clacton is a serious run with a loaded vehicle; Brentwood to Basildon is not. Distance is one of the four things that moves a quote, and we say so rather than hiding it.

02

How soon do I need to book?

As soon as you have a date, even a provisional one. Fridays and month-ends go first across the whole county, and summer tightens everything. Holding a slot costs nothing; finding a crew at short notice in July is another matter.

03

Do you do office and business moves?

Regularly. Offices in Chelmsford and Colchester, units on the Basildon and Braintree estates, shops and studios along the Southend front. Out of hours is usually the answer so trading stops for the shortest time.

04

Can you store things between completions?

Yes — wrapped, inventoried and racked indoors. Essex chains slip like everyone else's, and putting the load into store beats leaving it on a vehicle overnight. Mention it at quote stage so it is priced in rather than improvised.

05

Is a move to Europe a different company?

No, it is us. The load leaves Essex, picks up the M25 and runs out through Kent to the crossings. Same crew packing here, and the customs documentation is prepared from the same inventory.

06

How do you work out a price?

Volume, access at both ends, how much packing you want done, and distance. Four things. Not the season, not how urgent it sounds, not what another firm quoted. If you are comparing quotes, check both have measured the same volume — that is where most of the gap between two numbers lives.

07

Does a survey cost anything?

No. On anything above a one-bed it is worth the twenty minutes because it fixes the volume and settles the access questions. Video surveys work well if you are already living elsewhere.

08

Will one vehicle be enough?

Usually, for up to a three-bed with reasonable access. Where the load or the access says otherwise we will tell you at survey rather than sending a second van at four in the afternoon.

09

Do you pack, or is that on me?

Either, or a split. Plenty of households do the books, the kids' rooms and the garage themselves and leave us the kitchen, the glass and the pictures. The quote names which rooms we are packing so there is no confusion.

10

What about the A12 and the A127?

They shape the working day more than anything else in this county. The A12 around Chelmsford and the A127 into Southend both lock up at predictable times, and a loaded vehicle sitting in that is time somebody is paying for. We plan loading windows around them.

11

Do you cover the coast and the islands?

Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Southend, Leigh, Canvey and Mersea, yes. Mersea has the tide to think about — the Strood floods and that has ended more than one delivery plan. We check the tide table rather than hoping.

12

Can you move a piano?

Uprights routinely, with the right board and straps. Grands we look at first — a grand out of a first-floor flat is a specialist job and we would rather bring in a piano specialist than improvise it.

13

Are my things insured?

Goods in transit and storage cover are both in place. There are the usual conditions about owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value, so flag anything genuinely valuable at survey and we will confirm in writing what applies before you book.

14

What happens if completion is delayed on the day?

It happens. If the keys do not release, the load stays on the vehicle or goes into store overnight rather than onto a pavement. We will tell you plainly what that means for the booking rather than sending a surprise invoice afterwards.

15

Do you dismantle and rebuild furniture?

Beds, wardrobes, table legs and flat-pack that will not clear a staircase — yes, and we rebuild at the other end. Anything plumbed, wired or fitted in we leave to the relevant trade.

16

Can you collect from two addresses?

Yes. Two households merging, a storage unit cleared on the way, or a parent's house emptied at the same time. Mention both addresses in the brief so the route and the timing are costed properly.

17

Do you clear what I am not taking?

Packing materials go back with us as a matter of course. Clearing a loft or a garage of things you are leaving behind is a separate job and we price it separately rather than folding it in quietly.

18

Is parking a problem in the town centres?

In Chelmsford, Colchester and central Southend it can be, and bay suspensions need arranging in advance through the relevant council. We will tell you which side of it we handle and which side needs you, because some permits can only be applied for by the occupier.

19

Do you work Saturdays?

Yes, and they are the first slots to go. If your date is fixed, book early. If it can flex, a midweek move is easier to crew and easier to park.

20

What is a part-load to Europe?

Your goods share a vehicle with other consignments heading the same way, so you pay for the space you use rather than a whole lorry. It suits smaller households and flexible dates; a dedicated vehicle is the answer when the date cannot move.

21

Who handles the customs paperwork for a European move?

We do, working from the survey inventory. Since the UK left the EU a household move needs a proper packing list and the destination country's transfer-of-residence process. We tell you what we need from you, and when.

22

Can you help if I am moving into Essex rather than out?

Yes, and a good share of the work is exactly that — London and the Home Counties heading out to the county for space. We collect wherever you are and deliver here.

Still not answered?

Put it in the notes on the quote form — it reaches the same people. Services covers what we do, areas we cover covers where, and European removals covers moves that leave the country.

Tell us about the move

Send both addresses, your dates if you have them, and a sense of what is going. We will read it properly and come back with a written quote.
