Business and office
removals in Essex
Offices, studios, shops and small industrial units. The difference from a house move is not the lifting — it is the sequencing, because the thing that actually costs money is the time the business is not trading.
Essex has a lot of small and mid-sized business premises: professional offices around Chelmsford and Colchester, light industrial and warehouse units across Basildon, Braintree and Thurrock, and retail and studio space along the Southend front and in the market towns. We move them.
What makes a commercial move different
A household move has one deadline: completion. A business move has a dozen — when the IT can be down, when the landlord allows loading, when the phones have to work again, when staff can be out of the building. Getting those in the right order is most of the job.
So the survey for a business move is a planning meeting as much as a measure-up. We walk the space, agree a sequence, and put it in writing alongside the quote.
What we handle
- Desks, chairs, pedestals and meeting furniture — dismantled and rebuilt
- IT hardware moved, labelled and crated; reconnection left to your IT provider
- Filing, archive and secure records, kept in order and traceable
- Stock, fixtures and display units for retail
- Workshop equipment and light machinery within reasonable weight limits
- Reusable crates delivered in advance so staff can pack their own desks
Out of hours, usually
Most commercial moves in this county happen on a Friday evening or across a weekend. The business closes normally, we move overnight or across Saturday, and Monday opens in the new premises. It costs a little more in crewing and it saves considerably more in lost trading — which is the calculation worth making.
Access, landlords and loading windows
In a managed office building or a shopping centre, the loading window is set by somebody else and it is rarely generous. That has to be established before anything is planned, because a two-hour window changes the crew size, the vehicle choice and possibly the whole sequence.
On the industrial estates at Basildon, Braintree and Thurrock it is easier — proper bays, level access, room to turn. Town-centre offices in Chelmsford and Colchester are the tight ones.
Phased moves and storage
Not every business can empty a building in one go. Archive and rarely-used equipment can go into store while the working floor carries on, then come back out once the new space is fitted. We quote the store alongside the move so it is one arrangement, not two.
Getting a quote
Tell us the two addresses, the approximate floor area, how many desks or what the stock consists of, and any window the landlord imposes at either end. We will arrange a walk round and come back with a written quote and a proposed sequence. Household moves are on house removals; the full list is on services.
Planning it
Business move questions
Do you work outside office hours?
Usually, yes, and it is normally the right answer. Evenings and weekends mean the business loses the least trading time and the building is empty enough to work properly. It needs booking further ahead than a weekday job.
Who handles the IT?
We move the hardware — carefully, labelled, crated where it warrants it. Disconnecting and reconnecting servers and networks is your IT provider's job, and we sequence the move around when they can be on site rather than leaving it to chance.
Can you move us in phases?
Often the sensible approach. Archive and storage go first, then departments in an order that keeps the business trading, then the last desks. We plan the sequence with you rather than turning up and emptying a floor.
What about a shop or a studio?
Different again — stock, fixtures and display units rather than desks. The constraint is usually the loading window the landlord or the centre allows, so that gets established first.
Do you provide crates?
Yes, reusable crates rather than cardboard for most office work — they stack, they protect better, and they go back afterwards. We deliver them in advance so staff can pack their own desks.
Next step
Moving business premises?
Send both addresses, a rough floor area and any loading window the landlord imposes. We will arrange a walk round and propose a sequence.
